French Connection - This Is The Man

Building on their Spring/Summer campaign, French Connection continue to support the death of the metrosexual with these spots referencing Jørgen Leth's 1967 short film The Perfect Human. Tomato's Dirk van Dooren worked on the original concept with Fallon's ECD Richard Flintham. Check out the YouTube channel for the all the spots, also featuring the idiosyncrasies of The Woman.

50 Years of Dr. Martens

Dr. Martins turned 50 this month and to mark the occasion they've stepped up their presence with some activities
to raise the heritage again and connect with new audiences. They've asked 10 artists to record their version of a cult
classic track which represents the spirit of the people who've worn DM's over the past 50 years. And also asked 10
directors to make videos for each of the tracks.

Nothing new concept wise, but nice content. But with such a history and fan base over the years it would be good
to somehow let fans interact and participant in the anniversary, everyone has a story with this brand.

Adidas Originals: Womens LookBook 2010

This is a smart way to reach people virally with your products! A little different from most fashion promo videos.
But why can't you click through to the adidas page with the product info and explore them more?
And why doesn't the YouTube version also have such a product click through feature? Surely you would reach more
people and continue the experience...

All in all a good idea which just needs a little more development and continuation, but then again maybe there is
some reason for not going all the way? I'm sure this type of thing will become quite standard soon, my mind starts
jumping how I could adapt this to some of the brands I work with, but make better ;-) Thanks adidas!

R.I.P - Alexander McQueen

So sad to here the news of the death of a true creative visionary yesterday!

Alexander McQueen: Inspiring, daring, cutting-edge, pioneering, imaginative, innovator...
are some words that spring to mind... and still seem to underestimate his creative talent...
a sad loss not just for fashion, but for what creativity stands for!

Below is a clip of a memory I have from 1999 when, for me, his genius really shone through...
I became a fan and took interest from this moment on...

Y-3 adidas - Fall / Winter 2009 collection

Y-3 always have a great digital online presence... simple, engaging and the ability to view the products in detail.
Does it need to have share options? Probably not if you want to keep something exclusive ;-)

SOFT FURNISHINGS - Peter Saville & Nick Knight - The Interviews...

The Soft Furnishings project/shoot (Peter Saville's Erotic House story for the July issue of Wallpaper*) has been
taking place over the last couple of days. Also with a LIVE feed now. I've caught bits here and there, it's been interesting
listening to Saville work behind the scenes and his collaboration (again) with Nick Knight. But like most shoots there's
a fair share of sitting around, while prep and chats take place.

I'm really looking forward to catching the printed images in the magazine in July, I have a lot of respect for these 2 creatives,
Nick Knight and the way he pushes the boundaries of photography. And Saville for his meticulous thought process,
detail and references. I might take this back when I see the images... but at the moment this feels more like
a homage to Guy Bourdin, who basically invented this style of photography and brought it into fashion and advertising.
Still love this concept though and a great idea to broadcast it like this, openness and insights will be the norm very soon.
The end result will look very Peter Saville in a way ;-) Big-up!

Also interesting how more and more LIVE feeds are popping up, I can't get enough, whatever they are.
I did one last month which had some tech faults but was still hugely popular, more based around an event.
Seems like LIVE feeds will become very mainstream.

Soft Furnishings is still LIVE now if you are awake and reading...

LOVE MAGAZINE - The New Pop?

The long awaited, much hyped style/fashion magazine LOVE was released the end of last week, published by Condé Nast.
With Katie Grand at the helm, formally editor-in-chief at Pop, she has promised a 'back to reality' approach with a ban
on size zero models amongst other things, hence the launch cover. I haven't seen a copy yet but really looking forward
to seeing if Love can live up to the outstanding disruptive Art Direction set by Pop.

But on release the magazine has gained a lot of negative and controversial press from within the design industry and
the high street due to the vast amount of adverts and advertising and it's unoriginal front cover. The cover is almost a
direct copy of an NME cover from 2 years ago, same model but with different colours and typography. Check it here...

Personally I don't really care if it is a copy, this is much better, taking the concept and turning it into a more artistic
approach. And what better way to create hype and press on a launch of a magazine than with a little controversy ;-)

Above is the Colette shop window, created for the launch. Lovely!

ADIDAS - Lookbook Women

Having worked on adidas worldwide projects for over 3 years I got to know them as a brand quite well. Now and again
I'll look deeper into what they are up to and I think what Sid Lee has been creating for them over the last year has
been great and in the right direction, both online and off. Although this lookbook for women is nothing new online, it is
well made, well art directed, styled and most importantly has a fun feeling to it. Keep up the good work ;-)

AP - Raise The Heat

Remember it's Valentines Day tomorrow ;-) and Agent Provocateur raise the heat in this new spot. For maximum impact
this feels a little more targeted to the lad mag readers. I hope all their campaigns don't start to take this direction...
or do it? Also check out their new blog, full of insight and influence, lovely!

KIM JONES - Dunhill FW 09/10

I thought it was great when I first heard that Kim Jones would take over Dunhill. The great heritage brand needed a
a good kick to bring it back to life and out of yesteryears. OLD post here...
What I didn't guess or realize was that his own label and collaboration line for Umbro would then disappear, which
is what has happened (correct me if I'm wrong). What was great about these two labels was the fact that they fused
casual with street and casual with sport, which many brands try to do but fail to do with such a natural instinct.
Well I guess if I start rocking the Dunhill it will keep the parents happy, it being one of their fav brands ;-)

RVCA - Erin Wasson

I love good collaborations, ones where like-minded people team up to create something passionate, not the ones
where large commercial brands team up with a current cool player to piggyback on their hype... depends who, what etc.
Erin Wasson's collab with über layback San Fran based label RVCA is one such favorite, they compliment each other
perfectly. Released Feb 1st, her natural L.A. bohemian look and style is something I look forward to filtering down
to the streets and beaches this summer :-)

The Spring / Summer 09 release party...

Check Erin's lovely house out if you missed it...
via one of my fav sites at the moment, The Selby ;-)
