BEAUTIFUL - Ólafur Arnalds Music Video

I've had a huge interest for half my life in mixing sound to visuals, by where the sound creates the visuals.
Over the years there has been various things like this that has popped up, but none so simply beautiful as this.
I would love to know if there is science and math behind this, relating to colour, key and cords? As technology
advances it won't be long until we get this style of effects in the iTunes visualizer, I hope ;-)
